Using metal powders as raw material, MIM technology makes
it possible to manufacture metal components even with extremely
complex geometry at a lower cost but with better mechanical
and dimensional properties than those manufactured using traditional
technologies.
Components manufactured using MIM technology offer a number
of advantages compared to those produced with more traditional
processes.
Especially important are:
- the ability to create very complex shapes without machining
(the so-called “net shape”), which includes the
ability to print company trade-marks or logos during moulding;
- a consistent metallurgic shape made possible by the use
of alloy powders which compares very favourably with the inconsistency
of traditional casting
-based technologies and the anisotropy caused by normal processing
methods (rolling, drawing, pressing, etc.)
- proven lower costs for certain quantities and dimensions.
